OUR RECENT COURSES

HAVE BEEN FULLY BOOKED SEVERAL MONTHS IN ADVANCE

The first weekend will be devoted to workshops, seminars and one-to-one tutorials.  Professional actors will NOT be present. Through a series of exercises and workshops, we enable writers to develop an idea into the beginnings of a script over the weekend.

The period between the first weekend and the second will give you an opportunity to revise and develop your writing.

For the second weekend professional actors will be present throughout.  Every writer on the course will have the opportunity to see an extract from their script workshopped and rehearsed.

Timings: On both weekends, the Saturday workshops start at 10.00 a.m. and finish at 6.00 p.m.; the Sunday workshops start at 10.00 a.m. an finish at 5.00 p.m.

The workshops on both weekends will take place in the theatre space and in of the  studios at The Cockpit.

During the course you will be working on:

    • Generating material and ideas
    • Writing effective dialogue
    • Finding a voice
    • Characterisation and character development
    • Narrative, structure and plot
    • Stagecraft
    • Editing and rewriting

You will be taking part in:

    • Seminars
    • Individual tutorials
    • Workshops with professional actors (2nd weekend only)

The course will culminate in:

    • Script-in-hand performances by professional actors of short scripts or extracts that you will have developed during the course.

PLEASE NOTE:  During the workshops with actors WRITE Theatre participants will take part in discussions, but will NOT be required to act.

There is a strict UPPER LIMIT on the number of participants on any WRITE Theatre playwriting course.

For the 2-weekend course we accept a maximum of 8 writers. This is in order to allow sufficient workshop time for each script extract on the second weekend. We also accept a maximum of 2 additional writers for the first weekend only.

If you would like to be put on the mailing list to receive information about this and future courses, please email us.  See Contact page for details.

NOTE: Course postponement or cancellation

WRITE Theatre reserves the right to postpone or cancel workshops until 3 weeks before delivery of the first weekend of the course. In the unlikely event of this taking place, any payments including deposit will be refunded in full to participants. WRITE Theatre takes no responsibility for any other expenses which may have been incurred.
